DIY Project #2

As promised, I will be revealing my second project today. But first, I want to give an update to yesterday's post. It turns out that the Indoor Flea Market, where I found the furniture for these 2 projects, is closed by the time I get out of work. So, I have to make a decision. Do I wait til Saturday to get the pieces? Or do I call them, purchase the pieces over the phone and have them hold the furniture for me til Saturday? I'll have to think on this for a bit this morning.

Ok, now that the update is out of the way, my plan for project #2! Once again, here is a photo of the piece. As you can see, this is a chest that does not have any of the drawers.

Now for the Inspiration photo!

I found this project on apartmenttherapy.com. As with all my inspiration photos, just click on it and you will be taken to the original site! As I stated, my piece does not have any drawers, so I have to decide whether I want to add drawers or use the space for shelving. I'm thinking we'll be making drawers for this project! Also, my piece's top has beautiful curves so instead of replacing it with a butcher block, I think I'll just strip the old paint off and stain it! But you'll have to check back to see what I have done!

DIY Project #1

After much debating and searching for furniture to upcycle, I have finally decided on my very first project! I'm so excited about this one! I found this Nightstand at a local Indoor Flea Market for an unbelievable deal! Heading there right after work to pick it up. What do you think of it? It needs some love that's for sure!

Want to see what I have in mind for it? I found this great project originally on pinterest. You can click on the pic to take you to blog.spoonflower.com for a full step by step guide.

Of course, my nightstand is different from this one so it won't look exactly the same! And that's what I like! Check back for my completed project within the next 2 weekends! By the way, I also found this at the same Indoor Flea Market, check back tomorrow for when I reveal what Project #2 will be!

DIY Shutter Plate Rack

I fell in love with this project! I adore old shutters and you can find them just about anywhere. I also need a plate rack (I'm a teacup and saucer collector) without spending much money. This project was found at  http://laurieannas.blogspot.com/. Step by step instructions can be found there. You can also click on the pic to take you there! Thank you LaurieAnna for coming up with this wonderful DIY project! What do you think? I know this style isn't for everyone, but I feel it's the perfect blend of shabby and chic. Especially if you plan to place beautiful china on it.

I hope you enjoy making this one as much as I will! And of course, once it is completed I'll post some pics of my version!

Pampered Pooch (or Kitty) Project

I've been sitting here just staring at the dog food bag and bowls thinking to myself that I need to think of something to hide them in. Well I found just the project for that! This is such a great idea, that I wonder why I didn't think of it! I found this lovely on pinterest.com and as always you can click on the pic to go to it's original home, rocknrollproblems! Unfortunately I did not find any instructions on how to do this, so I will most definately be adding  step by step instructions once I have completed this project! Of course my version will be slightly different than this one. I already plan to add some kind of liner to it. Most likely a plastic tub with lid to keep any pests out. What do you think of this? Leave a comment and share with your friends! Oh, and don't forget to follow me!

Laundry Room Organization

Have a small laundry room or area that needs a make~over? Have an entertainment center that no longer works for your new flat screen? Have I got a project for you! I found this inspiration on bhg.com the other day and I must say I'm loving it! As always, just click on the pic for instructions on how to make your own. Not diggin' it? How about turning it into a craft area? I have ideas for that one as well! So stay tuned for my version of this nifty project.

Drawer into Foot Stool

Well, I've found another great project! I absolutely love the look of this, especially because I'm all about taking one item and turning it into something else altogether! I do believe this will work nicely with my whole Shabby Chic, English Cottage, Country theme I've decided on for my apartment. What do you think? You can find the tutorial on how to make this yourself at Beyond The Picket Fence by clicking on the photo! But I must warn you, if you've never attempted anything like this before, you may want to come back and check out my exact step by step walk through. I really can't wait to get started on this one, looks like I need to hit up some yard sales this weekend!

Why Didn't I Think Of That??

Yeah, I had that moment this morning and just had to share with ya'll! I don't know why I haven't thought of this before! I've been searching for furniture to refurbish on craigslist lately and have seen many old tables, but they were just too big for my small apartment. Now I know what to do! Do you have a wall space that you just have no idea what to do with? Well look no further!

Yes, you could use it as a desk OR you could create an impromptu bar area. Perfect for you socialites who live in small apartments! This is going on my To Do List for sure! By the way I found this on bhg.com. Click on the pic for direct link there!

The Morning After

It's Tuesday, the morning after dreaded Monday. Did everyone survive unscathed? I survived my 1st day at my new job, though I was beginning to wonder around 3pm. I don't know about everyone else but the hours between 2 and 4 seem to be when my brain decides it's time to shut down and take a nap! So off I went for a nice hot cup of very strong coffee. Not the best idea. Oh it woke me up alright, however it also made me very jittery. I felt like I had ADHD! I wanted to move around, but as a Customer Service Rep, I'm basically chained to the desk! I'd love to know how everyone else gets through those dreary hours. So leave a comment and share your suggestions!

Make~Over Monday!

Have you noticed the prices for headboards these day? Crazy! Even for an inexpensive one from stores like Walmart, Kmart and Target, the cost is quite literally disgusting. So, me being me decided to look for ideas on making one easily and on budget. I came across this on pinterest.com the other day and fell in love!

This beautiful headboard is made from an old door! Painted, aged and add crown molding. This was made by Grand Design Co, an Interior Design Consultation website. Click on the photo to go to their site! I'll be scouring the area for old doors now! So be sure to check back often for photos and step by step instructions for my take on this.

New Beginnings

I decided to start this blog today because it seems with this new year comes many new beginnings for me. A new job, new apartment and well a new life altogether. I am completely starting over!  The apartment we will be moving into soon screams for an English Cottage Shabby Chic kinda theme. And of course since I am starting over, I have very little furnishings and a very small budget to work with. Ugghh, I know right?? What to do? I say shop at yard sales, thrift stores and flea markets! Take that tired old dresser and revamp it into something totally needed and out of the box! Here is one idea I found today while on pinterest.com (love that site!).

This was originally posted by ebloga.com. I tried to go to that sight but well I guess it is no more. Anyhoo! Don't you just love this idea for extra storage? Maybe in an entryway? I have found a lot of uses for these poor old dressers, which I intend to post soon! Also, as I begin transforming my own thrifty finds I will post before and after pictures for everyone to see. And of course share some dos and don't s. I am sure I will have tons of don't s!
